$899 and $2,200. Both are lab-grown diamond pieces in solid gold, both sit inside a $2,500 gift budget, and only one of them comes with a grade a third party issued. Liori Diamonds states that its 1.00ctw studs are D-VS1 graded by AGI. Fiametta's Mini Link Huggies carry lab-grown diamonds and no grading laboratory at all.
This is the band where that distinction starts to be purchasable. Below $500 almost nothing carries a report; above $2,500 almost everything does. In between, it depends entirely on who you buy from. Two absences worth stating. Our file holds no price for Fiametta's Double Huggies; the brand cites a Vogue gift guide placing them under $2,500, and that citation is the brand's own, so we publish no price for the piece. And AMANDA PEARL's own materials guide applies the lab-grown claim to white diamonds only — some of its product pages say just "diamonds" or "ethical diamonds", so check the individual listing. Where a laboratory comes with the grade
Only Noémie hands you one as a matter of course: an IGI or GIA certificate is included with diamond jewelry, the stone origin sits in the product title, and a selector switches between natural and lab-grown on the same design. Liori names a laboratory per item, and which one varies — AGI on the $899 studs, GIA or IGI on loose stones. We read AGI as materially less stringent than GIA, so those are not interchangeable statements.
Fiametta and AMANDA PEARL publish grades and name no laboratory. BEN publishes no grade at all, describing stones only as "inset diamonds". None of that makes the pieces worse; it makes the grade the seller's description rather than a finding. Reading a diamond report covers why the distinction is not pedantry.
Two prices that have moved
Gift guides go stale, and this catalogue proves it. Vogue's jewelry team profiled BEN featuring The Ace Vault at $3,600; the current catalogue lists it at $4,400–$6,000 in 14k. NYLON's 2024 gift guide listed the Universe Vault with curb chain at $2,100; it now lists at $2,900–$4,550. Both citations are independently verified coverage — and both prices are historical, not current.
The drift is not accidental. WWD quoted the founder in 2023 aiming to keep ninety per cent of offerings under $5,000; the range now reaches $6,550 for The Karma Vault. Read any dated price, including ours, as a reading rather than a quote.
The arithmetic
Worn once a week for five years — 260 wears — nothing in this band reaches our top verdict band. The $899 studs are $3.46 a wear, the $1,065 Ripple Ring $4.10, the $1,130 eternity band $4.35, the $1,450 Goddess $5.58, the $2,200 huggies $8.46 and the $2,435 Quill Bypass Ring $9.37. All Buy on sale.
What moves them is frequency, not price. Three days a week for a decade — 1,560 wears, which studs and huggies genuinely earn — puts the $899 pair at $0.58, the $1,130 band at $0.72 and the $2,200 huggies at $1.41. A gift in this band is a bet on daily wear.
THE PENNYWEIGHT VERDICT
Buy on sale — with one exception worth paying full price for.
The number is $4.35 against $3.46. Noémie's 18K Diamond Eternity Band at $1,130 costs more per wear than Liori's $899 studs, and it is the one this guide puts first: the stone is stated as natural in the title, an IGI or GIA certificate comes with it, the window is thirty days rather than fourteen, and return shipping is free with no restocking fee. Eighty-nine cents a wear is a fair price for all of that.
If the recipient wears studs daily, the $899 pair at $0.58 over a decade is the better arithmetic — provided you ask for the AGI report first. And whichever way you go, order early enough that the box is opened inside the window: BEN's fourteen days are calendar days, and they do not wait for a birthday.
