Setting: Bezel, Prong & Pavé

A prong (or claw) setting grips a stone with metal tines and shows the most of it. A bezel wraps a metal rim fully or partly around the girdle, protecting the edges and sitting flatter against the skin. Pavé sets many small stones close together in beaded metal so the surface reads as continuous. The choice affects durability, how much light reaches the stone, and how easily the piece can be resized.
