Points
A point is one hundredth of a carat, so a twenty-five-point stone is 0.25 ct and a "seventy-five pointer" is 0.75 ct. The trade uses points to avoid decimals on tags and in conversation. Points describe weight only — never spread, cut quality or brightness. Two stones of identical point weight can look markedly different face-up depending on how each was cut.
