Heirlome: where the handwork actually is, and what it costs

Across 222 products the artisan contribution is overwhelmingly artwork reproduced as print; the physical handwork sits in a Bolivian knitting collective and one weaver’s rebozos. Real prices $190–$6,590, and a 14-day return the brand pays for.

A carved wood printing block, a dish of pigment and an uncut bolt end of part-printed silk twill.

Heirlome's catalogue runs to 222 products. On most of them the named Mexican or Latin American artisan supplied the artwork rather than the labour: the print reproduces the artisan's original, and the garment is cut and sewn in the USA or Italy. Physical artisan handwork sits in two places — a Bolivian knitting collective, and one weaver's rebozos.

That distinction is the whole brand, and it decides which pieces here are worth what they cost.

What they actually sell

Luxury women's ready-to-wear, not jewelry — the 222-product catalogue contains exactly one item typed as jewelry. Tailored silk and wool separates, draped silk maxi dresses, cashmere and camel-hair coats, leather jackets, hand-crochet knitwear and silk-twill scarves. Each collection is organised around a named artisan whose artwork is reproduced as a print, or whose handwork is built into the garment.

Who makes it, and where

Multi-origin, and worth stating precisely, because "artisan-made" is doing different work in different parts of this catalogue.

The tailored ready-to-wear is Made in USA, verified on the Alyona Dress and Abigail Trousers product pages. The silk-twill scarves are Made in Italy — including the $290 Arnulfo Vazquez Scarf, which carries original artwork by the Mexican artisan Arnulfo Vazquez of Tonalá, Jalisco, printed onto Italian silk. The hand-knit and crochet pieces are produced by the Madres y Artesanas Tex collective in Bolivia, and that includes the $6,590 Rivera Dress, an Italian-cashmere-and-silk crochet maxi with hand-sewn silk appliqué. Arturo Estrada Hernandez, a weaver with more than forty years' experience, hand-weaves the rebozos.

Everywhere else, the named artisan supplied the image and not the labour. The brand's own craft language is about fidelity of reproduction — prints "faithfully reproduce every stroke and imperfection" of the original — which is an accurate description of what is being sold, and a more modest one than the word artisanal usually signals.

Fabric compositions are published per product. The house tailoring cloth is 32% silk / 68% wool: the $1,790 Alyona Dress in it is chest-lined and dry clean only; the $1,390 Abigail Trousers add 100% Bemberg pocketing. Beyond that, cashmere and camel-hair outerwear, leather and silk organza.

Stephanie Suberville and Jeffrey Axford founded the label in New York in 2022.

The terms

Every term below is the brand's own published statement, recorded 4–5 September 2026.

Returns run 14 days from receipt, and the brand pays the label. That is the better half of a mid-table term. Fourteen days is the modal window across the fifteen brands in our return-window reference, and Heirlome supplies the return shipping label and mentions no restocking fee — which puts it ahead of the several brands on that board that bill you for the leg back.

The hangtag must still be attached, and the garment unused, unwashed and unaltered. Approved refunds reach the original payment method within 10 business days. EU customers get an additional 14-day cooling-off period. Custom products and special orders are not returnable at all.

There are no direct exchanges. You return, then repurchase — which on a size swap means the second order is a new 14-day clock and the piece may sell out between the two.

Sizing is US 0–10, and stops there. No extended sizing exists. A published size chart and per-product fit notes are available: the Alyona Dress "fits true to size", with the model at 5'9" in a size 2.

Shipping. Complimentary US standard shipping, 5–8 business days, starting one business day after the order is placed; orders cannot be cancelled once shipped. International shipping is not automated at checkout — you email customer care, and you pay all duties and taxes yourself.

The press record

Every press citation in our file for Heirlome resolves to the outlet that published it. Vogue Runway keeps a designer hub with six seasons reviewed, Fall 2025 ready-to-wear through Resort 2027; Laird Borrelli-Persson's Resort 2027 review notes that Suberville is a runner-up of the 2025 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and has left her second job to work on the brand full time. WWD reviewed Resort 2027 and covered the artesanía model in 2023. The Cut, ELLE, Goop, Surface Magazine and Air Mail all ran founder interviews or profiles in 2026, and The Zoe Report profiled the brand in 2024. The CFDA member page confirms membership, Monterrey origin, Parsons 2008 Womenswear Designer of the Year and the 2025 Fashion Fund placing.

Against that: no third-party review history exists — no Trustpilot profile, no BBB listing and zero Sitejabber reviews. The press record is strong; the customer record is empty.

Comparable brands

Ulla Johnson, Johanna Ortiz, Gabriela Hearst, Cara Cara and Alejandra Alonso Rojas. All five sell craft-referencing ready-to-wear at four figures, which makes the disclosure question — where the handwork actually is — the thing to compare rather than the story.

THE PENNYWEIGHT VERDICT

Buy at full price — the Made-in-USA silk-wool tailoring.

The number is $1,390. That is the Abigail Trousers: 32% silk / 68% wool with 100% Bemberg pocketing, cut and sewn in the USA, returnable for fourteen days on a label the brand pays for and with no restocking fee. The cloth is disclosed, the country is disclosed on the product page rather than at brand level, and the return costs you nothing but the calendar. At this price that combination is rarer than it should be.

The print pieces are a different calculation, and worth checking before you pay full price. There, what you are buying is a licensed image on good cloth, not handwork — and a wholesale partner currently lists the Elaine Top at $177 against $590 on Heirlome's own site, a 70% markdown on a brand this young. The $6,590 Rivera is the one piece where the handwork is physically in the garment, and it is priced accordingly.

Prices, compositions, country-of-origin statements, policy terms and press citations are drawn from Heirlome's own published pages and product data, from Moda Operandi and Shop Zoe listings, and from the named outlets, as recorded in our brand files on 4–5 September 2026. Terms change without notice. The Pennyweight buys nothing, accepts no gifted product, and is not affiliated with any brand or retailer named here.
