Anna October: priced in euros, and EUR 40 to send it back

The country selector reads "United States (EUR €)" — a US shopper is quoted and charged in euros, gets 14 days, and pays EUR 40 for the return leg. Real prices in EUR, what the satin actually is, and the one verified USD price pair.

Fabric swatches, fluid viscose satin and alpaca knit, laid on paper beside a steel rule.

The country selector on Anna October's storefront reads "United States (EUR €)". That is not a display quirk. A US shopper is quoted and charged in euros, and the return leg costs EUR 40 — roughly 5.5% of the EUR 725 Isolde midi dress, before whatever a card adds for the conversion. Fourteen days to decide.

What they actually sell

Ukrainian designer womenswear built on bias-cut, lingerie-inspired slip dresses. The storefront carried 152 live products at the time of check, 69 of them dresses. Around that core sit satin corsets, satin pencil skirts, tops, tailoring and suits, knitwear, capes, boleros, opera gloves, bodysuits, a bridal edit and gift cards.

Who makes it, and where

Anna October founded the label in 2010; the business is now headquartered in Paris. The about page states that each piece is "thoughtfully crafted in an intimate Ukrainian atelier" — but no product page we sampled carried a country-of-origin statement, so the Ukrainian-manufacture claim reaches the buyer as brand copy rather than per-SKU disclosure. Orders ship from an EU warehouse via DHL Express, not from Ukraine. Production inside a country at war is a continuity and lead-time risk worth naming.

Fabric composition, by contrast, is published per product, and it is the part to read. The EUR 725 Isolde midi dress is 57% viscose / 43% polyester, dry clean only. The EUR 600 Cleo sweater is 100% alpaca. The EUR 430 Cecilia cardigan is 90% cotton / 10% polyamide, and the EUR 460 Bernice cape is 100% viscose. Moda Operandi lists the Clementine Satin Maxi Dress in the same 57% viscose / 43% polyester. The satin here is a viscose-polyester blend, not silk.

Two gaps in that disclosure. The about page advertises "luxe cashmere knits", and no cashmere appeared in the four knit and outerwear pieces we sampled. And the Aleksa dress page showed an empty composition field.

The terms

Every term below is the brand's own published statement, recorded 4–5 September 2026.

Returns run 14 days from receipt, and you pay the leg back. EUR 40 from the USA, at the same rates as outbound shipping; free only within Ukraine. Goods must be unworn, unaltered, unwashed and tagged. One free exchange per order is included. Refunds are issued within 10 working days of the return arriving. Fourteen days is the modal window across the fifteen brands in our return-window reference — nine of the fifteen sit there — so the window is ordinary. The EUR 40 is not.

Four categories cannot come back at all: sale items, bodysuits, gloves and brassieres. A marked-down dress is yours, and the EUR 125 Manon gloves are a final purchase at the entry price point.

You have to measure yourself. The size chart runs XXS to XL with bust, waist and hip in centimetres and inches — XXS is bust 80–82 cm, waist 60–62 cm, hips 86–88 cm. There is no EU, UK or US numeric conversion and no fit or care guidance on the page. On bias cut, sized from body measurements alone, treat the EUR 40 as part of the price rather than a contingency.

Shipping is DDP and reasonably quick. Worldwide via DHL Express from an EU warehouse, the USA explicitly included. Flat fees under $700 are EUR 30 to the EU and UK, EUR 40 to the USA and EUR 80 elsewhere; free over $700. Taxes and duties are included in the purchase price, so the checkout total is the landed total. Most orders are processed within two business days. No made-to-order or extended lead-time programme was found.

The press record

Eleven of the twelve citations in our file for Anna October resolve to the outlet that published them, and they are runway and news coverage rather than gift-guide mentions. WWD reviewed the Spring 2023 and Spring 2024 collections in Paris and named the label in its Ones To Watch feature for Spring 2023. Marie Claire UK ran an interview in 2022 on working with Ukrainian designers, and RBC-Ukraine profiled her in 2025. Refinery29 covered both J.Crew collaborations, in December 2023 and 2024; our file puts the holiday capsule at 18 pieces, $78–$398, and the summer capsule at 12 pieces in June 2024. Who What Wear, Metal Magazine, Suitcase Magazine and The Spin Off round it out.

The twelfth is a Business of Fashion BoF 500 profile that we have not independently read, so we are not describing it as coverage.

One absence worth stating: there is no third-party review history at all — no Trustpilot profile, no BBB listing, zero Sitejabber reviews. Fulfilment quality is unknowable here in either direction.

Comparable brands

Reformation, Rixo, Nensi Dojaka, Sir the Label and Staud. The split that matters is the return leg: the US-based names settle a return domestically, and this one does not.

THE PENNYWEIGHT VERDICT

Buy at full price — from a US stockist rather than the brand's own storefront.

The number is EUR 40. That is the cost of sending one dress back from the USA, at a merchant that prices you in euros, gives you fourteen days, publishes no US size conversion, and makes sale stock non-returnable so waiting for a markdown costs you the option to return. Against the EUR 725 Isolde that is about 5.5% before card FX — a fee you pay for guessing wrong on cloth you cannot try.

Moda Operandi carries the line at $540–$850 in dollars, and the Clementine Satin Maxi Dress there is the same 57% viscose / 43% polyester as the Isolde. Same cloth, same designer, a price quoted in the currency you hold.

The knitwear is the exception that argues for buying direct. At EUR 600 the Cleo is 100% alpaca, and alpaca is a fibre whose price you can check against anything else on the market. That is the piece in this catalogue where the material carries the number.

Prices, compositions, policy terms and press citations are drawn from Anna October's own published pages and product data, from Moda Operandi's listing, and from the named outlets, as recorded in our brand files on 4–5 September 2026. Terms change without notice. The Pennyweight buys nothing, accepts no gifted product, and is not affiliated with any brand or retailer named here.
