Grosgrain
Grosgrain is a ribbed woven ribbon whose ridges run across its width — traditionally silk, now often polyester or viscose. It turns up as hatband, waistband facing, bag trim and shoe detail because it is stiff, hard-wearing and does not stretch lengthwise. On a garment or accessory it is a construction signal: grosgrain facing usually indicates a more structured build.
