Guide · for wedding guests
Dressing as a Wedding Guest
A dress worn once is the worst cost-per-wear purchase in fashion, which is exactly why the occasion lane needs numbers. Buy something the calendar will use again, or price the single wear honestly and decide with your eyes open.
What matters most here
- Count the realistic wears before you count the price — two outings a year for five years is a different purchase from one
- Work from the brand’s own garment measurements, not the size label
- Check the return window and whether sale or occasion pieces are excluded
- Note the fabric: bias-cut and unlined silk need specialist alteration and specialist cleaning
Do not · Do not buy two sizes on a brand that excludes the second from returns — several labels we cover restrict returns on made-to-order and special-size pieces.
- Best Designer ClothingReady-to-wear, occasion and bridal: fabric, cut, sizing charts and what the price buys.
- Best Accessories & ShoesBags, shoes, hair and small leather goods — materials, made-in and how they wear.
- Best Gifts & OccasionsEngagement, wedding, milestone and holiday — matched to a real budget, not a mood board.
The short list
Three entries from the ledger — the full ranking lives on the best-of pages.
Disclosure —some links on this page are affiliate links: when a partner programme is live we earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. It never changes the price you pay and it never changes a verdict. We buy nothing, we accept no gifted product, and we are not affiliated with any brand we cover. Where a programme has not been approved yet, we say so instead of linking.
