The Pennyweight Desk is the house byline for work that no single writer owns: head-to-head comparisons, category roundups, the cost-per-wear calculator, and the Pennyweight Verdict that closes any piece recommending a purchase.

The Desk’s job is to make figures comparable. A $900 pair of studs and a $4,200 chain are judged on the same sheet — metal, weight, stone disclosure, price, terms — so a reader can see what is actually different rather than which brand writes better copy. Where two brands are close, we say so and name what breaks the tie.

Every factual claim about a brand traces to that brand’s own site, a grading lab, a named publication or a review platform, and the piece says which. Dated claims carry their date. If a number is not in our sources, the article does not state it — no estimates dressed as facts, and no rounded-up guesses.

We buy nothing, we accept no gifted product, and we earn a commission when a reader buys through our links.
